Air Force Secretary is Stepping Down Jan. 20
Washington D.C. -- January 16, 2001 -- (AFPN) -- After almost six years of service in the Defense Department, F. Whitten Peters is stepping down from his post as Air Force secretary effective Jan. 20.

Peters has held the highest civilian post in the Air Force since August 1999. Prior to becoming secretary, he also served as the acting secretary and undersecretary of the Air Force from 1997 to 1999 and as principal deputy general counsel, Department of Defense, from 1995 to 1997.
Peters has not announced his future plans.
