UAE Reiterates Continuation of its Endeavors on the Islands Issue
Havana, Cuba -- April 5, 2001 (WAM)-- The UAE confirmed that its exerted efforts in the interest to regain its three islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs occupied by Iran were and will be continuous endeavors based on adherence to rules and practices adopted by the civilised countries to resolve disputes.
The UAE pointed out that friendly countries and international organisations contributed to find a solution for this issue, but no tangible results were achieved due to Iranian obstinacy. (Photo Courtesy WAM)
These remarks were made by Mohammed Sultan Saeed, Member of the UAE's Federal National Council, in a speech today delivered by him in front of the conference of the International Parliament Union, being held here.
The Iranian allegations that the situation on the islands is just a misunderstanding is an attempt of deception, and the Iranian behaviour is not only provocative but also against international law, Mohammed added. Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE position which advocates resolution of the dispute either through international arbitration or serious direct negotiations.
