General Harald Kujat Elected Chairman of NATO's Military Committee

Today the Military Committee, the highest military authority of NATO, elected its new Chairman, General Harald Kujat, German Air Force, German Army German Chief of Defence, who will succeed the present Chairman, Admiral Guido Venturoni, after the June 2002 Ministerial meetings. The precise handover date is subject to the mutual agreement of the outgoing and incoming Chairmen.
General Kujat is currently Chief of Staff, Federal Armed Forces, and previously held positions both at NATO HQ, Brussels, and at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Mons. He will succeed the present Chairman, Admiral Guido Venturoni, Italy, who was appointed Chairman of the Military Committee on 6 May 1999. Military Committee Chairmen are appointed for a three year term of office.
