Hubert Védrine, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will appear before the European Parliament in Brussels tomorrow, 29 November 2000, at 4:00 p.m. In his capacity as President of the Council, he will make a presentation concerning the Nice European Council. He will discuss, in particular, the progress of negotiations taking place at the intergovernmental conference for institutional reform.
He will then take part in annual discussions concerning the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). He will appear following Mrs. Lalumière and Mr. Brok, members of the European Parliament, who will present their reports concerning the CFSP.
He will discuss the progress made in building a common European defense capability. Alain Richard, Minister of Defense, will provide an update on the work that has been accomplished so far in the area of military capabilities, which are essential to the project's credibility.
Finally, Mr. Védrine will also have the opportunity to comment on Afghanistan, as he has been told that a member will question him on this subject.
In addition, Mr. Védrine is accompanying the President of France to Vienna today.
