ADSB Wins UAE Navy Contract
Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. -- March 25, 2001 (WAM)-- Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) will design and build six new vessels for the UAE Navy's Baynunah project, according to a company statement.
The award of the contract was announced during IDEX 2001, held last week in Abu Dhabi. Contract details will be finalised during this year, according to the statement, published in the UAE's dailies. ADSB will serve as the prime contractor and main shipbuilder for the project.
The French firm Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN) will provide design, technology transfer and a number of services to ADSB as part of the Baynunah project.
The Baynunah design uses a proven hull form that provides excellent speed, manoeuvreability and sea-keeping characteristics. Each Baynunah vessel will be about 60 metres in length and will carry a modern and extremely capable combat system, according to the reports. WAM-VV
