British Intelligence False Claim by the Express on Sunday
Source: FCO, London, June 8, 2003.
Neither Sir Richard Dearlove, the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), nor Ms Eliza Manningham-Buller, the Director-General of the Security Service (MI5), ever threatened to resign over the intelligence content of Government publications about the Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Programmes.
This claim was made on the 8 June 2003 edition of the Express on Sunday, and the Government and both Intelligence Services wish to make it crystal clear that there is no truth in this allegation whatsoever.
The fact that this claim was complete fiction was underlined to the Express on Sunday, on-the-record, before they published the article.
