German Aerospace & Defence Industry Looks for More Integration

The BDLI (Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie e.V.), is the German Aerospace Industries Association. This umbrella organization for the German aerospace industry represents the economic, technological and research interests of its members with both the government, the parlament, the media and the public. In Germany, « about one million future-proof jobs are dependent on the aerospace industry ». Thanks to its strategic importance and its large contribution to added value, the aerospace industry creates and safeguards highly skilled jobs in Germany. As measured by turnover, the aerospace industry's spending on research and development is significantly higher than that of any other industry. (Source: BDLI). Every two years, the BDLI co-organizes with the Messe Berlin the "ILA Berlin Air Show", an nternational Aerospace Exhibition and international conferences. Again from May 27 to June 1, 2008, more than 200,000 visitors are expected in Berlin-Schönefeld, like in 2006. Dietmar Schrick, President of the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry tells us more about his organization before the new edition of the ILA 2008 which is likely again like in 2006 to set new records. Over 1,000 exhibitors from more than 40 countries are expected. Partner country India announces its largest presentation abroad.100 conferences, over 300 aircraft are expected.  (An overview). Germany’s Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will open the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA2008 on May 27, during a 90-minute tour of the event. She will be accompanied by Antony Arakkaparambil Kurian, Minister of Defence of India, this year’s partner country, Michael Glos, Federal Minister for Economics and Technology, Matthias Platzeck, Minister President of the Land Brandenburg, Harald Wolf, Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economics, Technology and Women, and Jürgen Thumann, President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The organisers of the ILA2008 will be represented by Dr. Thomas Enders, President of the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), and Raimund Hosch, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin GmbH. The opening tour will commence at 12.30 p.m. at the display commemorating the “60th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift” on the eastern side of the exhibition site (Display 1). The programme will include a brief opening ceremony next to the Airbus A 380 with addresses by Federal Chancellor Merkel, India's Defence Minister Antony and the BDLI President Enders.
