SAGEM Installs Biometric Control System at Paris Orly Airport

Paris -- (SAGEM) October 23, 2002 -- SAGEM, world number one in fingerprint-based biometric systems, has been selected by Aéroports de Paris (ADP) for the installation of a biometric control system to check the employees’ identity at one of the Paris Orly Ouest terminal checkpoints. This pilot system, which has been in operation since last May, comprises an enrolment station and a biometric access control device.

Registration is easy and user-friendly: airport employees have to show their professional badge and ID card, then successively put two fingers on the sensor and their fingerprints are registered into the system. The person registered is then biometrically recognised each time he/she wishes to enter the area with limited access, when putting one of his/her fingers on the control device.

Enrolment has been proposed to the platform employees on a voluntary basis; over 2,500 employees have chosen to participate.

This system has several advantages:

  • Rapidity: total checking time at checkpoints has been divided by 3,
  • Simplicity: employees don’t need to systematically show their ID card each time they go through the checkpoint, they only have to put their finger on the sensor which, thanks to Biometric comparison, will certify that the holder is the badge owner,
  • Efficiency: the level of access control to the limited access area is reinforced.

SAGEM offers the best technology to meet everyone’s vital need for security, everywhere, whether at home or at work. This access control system is the largest civil biometric system ever tested in operational conditions in France. It is part of a whole programme designed to reinforce air transport security, applied both to airport personnel and passengers.

Groupe SAGEM is an internationally-based high-technology group. The second largest French group in the field of telecommunications, the third European company in electronics for defence and security and the world leader in fingerprint-based biometrics, SAGEM maintains a presence in more than 20 countries.
